The song from the kitchen

Dislike the song, care about the share
You do not have to share the taste
Noor puts on a song while Rafi chops vegetables. Ten seconds later, Rafi skips it. “I thought you were just putting something on,” Rafi says. Noor had wanted to play a chorus that reminded her of a train journey years ago. Neither person had named what the music was for.
A second attempt could be small. “There’s one bit I wanted you to hear,” Noor says. Rafi asks, “The chorus?” After listening, Rafi can say, “What does it remind you of?” He does not need to like the singer. Noor might talk about a friend, a city or a time when life felt different. Or she might simply say, “I love that line.” Either answer can be complete.
Let attention include a limit
If Rafi needs quiet while cooking, that matters too. “I can listen to this bit, then I need the music off while I finish” is more informative than silently skipping. Noor can decide whether she wants to share it now or later. No one owes a full playlist, a matching memory or a particular emotional reaction.
Use the curiosity page to notice what the share was asking for: listening together, a question, or a moment of recognition. It was not necessarily an invitation to debate music taste. Ask before sharing the personal story with someone else. The exercise can help put a preference into words, but it cannot make another person care or make a harsh response feel safe. If a small interest repeatedly becomes a reason for ridicule or punishment, the issue needs more than a better opening question.
