Body-first exercises that work below the level of explanation
You go numb or float away mid-conversation and can't stop it
A starting point in the book
Grounding sequences to interrupt dissociation as it starts
Small things trigger a response far bigger than the moment deserves
A starting point in the book
A map of your own triggers and the early physical warning signs
You're exhausted from being braced all the time
A starting point in the book
Nervous-system regulation you can practise in a few minutes a day
You've read the books and still don't know what to DO in the moment
A starting point in the book
A step you can take the moment it happens, not just afterwards
What talk therapy can't reach, and why that isn't your failure.
The physical cues that arrive before the reaction does.
Something concrete to do in the ninety seconds that matter.
The format
Reaches what explanation can't
Every chapter ends with something to practise
A few minutes, because that's what's available mid-flashback
Simple language, small steps, no overwhelm
A structured companion, not a replacement

How to use it

Explore & practise
Name what state you're in before it drives the day.
Grounding and breath sequences for acute overwhelm.
Come back to the present without force or shame.
Widen your window of tolerance over weeks, not minutes.
Written for long-standing patterns, not a single incident.
Practical tools for numbing, floating and shutdown.
A body-based companion to the work you're doing.
If your reaction is to go still, this is the missing half.

Inside the book
Short exercises with written prompts — built for a nervous system that can't take much at once.

Make it your own
Choose one topic that feels relevant. There is no need to finish everything in one sitting.
Work through a prompt at a pace that feels manageable. Pause or skip an exercise when needed.
Revisit your notes and notice what you want to practise next. Reading does not guarantee a particular outcome.
From reading
A useful idea can be easier to revisit when you make a note of how it relates to your own situation.

The book feels practical and grounded, which is what I needed. I was especially surprised by how much the grounding exercises helped me slow down and notice what was happening in my body instead of immediately reacting. For me, the value is in having small practices I can repeat instead of waiting for one big breakthrough.

I expected a more interactive workbook. Many of the exercises felt familiar, so I did not get as much new material as I hoped. I would recommend previewing it before buying if you want a very hands-on workbook.

There is a lot to like here, especially if you want practical exercises. One section I keep returning to is the repeated check-ins because it helped me notice small changes over time that I probably would have overlooked. Not every exercise suited me, but there were enough options that I could find ones that did. Still, I found enough practical value here to recommend it.

I am glad I bought it, but I would recommend taking it slowly rather than trying to read straight through. In particular, the movement-based practices were useful when sitting still and trying to meditate felt impossible. The book works best for me in small doses, especially when I give myself time after an exercise. A few explanations felt longer than they needed to be. I would give it 4 stars because the useful parts outweigh the small issues.

This has been surprisingly useful as a day-to-day workbook. I got the most from the guided exercises; they gave me a clear starting point on days when I did not know what to do. I appreciate the emphasis on noticing rather than forcing a certain feeling. I have gotten more out of doing a few exercises slowly than I expected.

I was skeptical at first, but the structure won me over. For me, the gradual pacing made the material feel less intimidating than other trauma books I have tried. The steps are usually simple enough that I can try them without needing a perfect setup. I am glad I bought the physical copy because I keep going back to different sections.
